The recent stampede toward wireless internet has driven a number of large players in the computer industry to develop tablet computers. Taking advantage of Bluetooth and Wi-fi technologies, the Newport concept was designed to be both a laptop and a tablet computer in one.

In less than six months a small interdisciplinary team was able to design and build a working unit for show. I worked on several small assemblies in addition to the latch mechanism. This latch makes Newport the only tablet that is capable of 180 degree motion while still attached to the keyboard. The small finger latches also make it very easy to remove the keyboard from the screen unit.
